The “R” in RPET stands for “recycled.” The original PET plastic made from petroleum can be recycled, and the production of the recycled material does not consume natural resources. According to an industry study provided by ALPLA, the carbon emission of producing 1 kg of new material PET is 2.15 kg, while the carbon emission of 1 kg of recycled PET is only 0.45 kg. The carbon emission of RPET production is 79% less than that of original PET. The Association of Plastic Recyclers released a report in 2019 that revealed similar results.
