What is PLA?

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a new kind of biodegradable material free of any plastic. It is made from ingredient such as sugar or the corn starch transfered to glucose by saccharification. then generate lactic acid in high purity after bacterial fermentation. And again have the final polylactic through the chemical synthesis method. PLA or Polylactic Acid is a range of unique bioplastics which is both biobased and biodegradable.

Biodegradation or recycling?

PLA bioplastics are biodegradable which means that in the right environment they will serve as a source of food for micro organisms and funghi. After the biodegradation process is completed, only natural and harmless substances like water, CO2 and compost will remain behind. For PLA the biodegradation process will go relatively fast in industrial composting facilities and will take longer to complete in less biologically active environments. Besides composting, PLA bioplastics also offers additional end-of-life options like mechanical and chemical recycling.

PLA can achieve full biodegradation under the condition of compost degradation. Compost conditions are as follows:

58 + 2 ℃ temperature

Humidity of 98%

There are certain microbes

Under test lab condition, can achieve more than 90% biodegradation rate in 180 days.

Reduced carbon footprint

PLA bioplastic enable products to be produced with a high biobased content and a reduced carbon footprint. In case of our PLA we offer a 75% reduction in carbon footprint compared to most traditional fossil-based plastics. PLA is produced from renewable feedstocks like sugarcane, corn, sugar beet and cassava.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a material produced from resources that can be renewed on an annual basis, such as sugar beet, sugar cane, wheat, maize and cellulose. PLA manufacturing process includes biotechnology activity in the sucrose (sugar) or glucose extraction phase before transformation by fermentation (using a micro-organism) into lactic acid. This lactic acid is then chemically transformed into PLA.
